Feeding the world's ever-growing population is one of the biggest challenges of our generation.
The East of England has some of the best food and crop scientists in the world; we need to listen to them and support their work. I have fought for a level playing field for our farmers, and for the reforms of both the Common Fisheries Policy and the Common Agricultural Policy.
Post-Brexit the UK will be able to set its own agricultural policy. I believe we must prioritise food security, support domestic producers and maintain care for the environment as well as focusing on increased trade.
The UK has some of the highest animal welfare standards and I have been fighting to make sure there is a level playing field for producers across Europe. We need to make sure that the countries we import food from also adhere to high standards, and I will be mindful of this in the future trade deal.
Moreover, during my time as an MEP, I have long campaigned for an end to the practice of discarding edible fish at sea. It has been good to see this succeed!
