Farm, Food and Flowers on the agenda as local MEP visits The Brecklands

Vicky Ford, MEP for the East of England spent time on Friday with Norfolk County Councillor, Ann Steward, learning about farming and food in The Brecklands.

Mrs Ford MEP spent the first half of her visit on a farm with Breckland Farmers and Farm Managers, seeing first hand what is being done to balance the varying needs of the farming community, with protecting the rare habitat of the Brecks.

Following the farm visit, Mrs Ford also met with Vanessa Scott of Stratton's Hotel, and others involved in a campaign to  promote local food producers, and learned about The Brecks Food & Drink Festival, due to take place this coming weekend.

Speaking after the visit, Mrs Ford said: "Going around the farm and neighbouring areas reminded me how very special The Brecklands are. They are home to over 2000 species of flora and fauna of national concern, let alone the wildlife that live there, and we must work hard to preserve and protect such a special and unique environment.

"The farmers in The Brecks that I met with are doing a great job working on biodiversity and I wish the organisers of this weekend's food and drink festival great luck with this very important chance to showcase local produce, which makes a unique contribution towards the local economy."

My Political Priorities

Economic Stability must come first. Without a strong economy we can not deliver a strong society. I work with businesses and consumers to keep Britain open for business, cutting red tape, boosting trade opportunities and helping to deliver jobs and growth for all.

I support Science and Research which is key to delivering better medical care, healthy food as well as the Innovation and Creative Industries which bring improved lifestyles for all our families.

Strong home Security is vital in today's uncertain world, which requires robust policing and defence and deep international relationships that we can depend on. I work with others to achieve this.

I care about the Countryside and the Environment and making sure that rural and urban communities flourish.
