Week Ahead Media Briefing - Vicky Ford MEP - Monday 13th February
MEPs will meet in Strasbourg this week for debates and to vote in plenary.
This week in Strasbourg MEPs will vote on the EU-Canada trade agreement (CETA) which has taken over 7 years to negotiate. The agreement is sometimes described as a possible template for future EU/UK trade. However it does not cover in depth many key sectors such as services.
Furthermore the provisions for mutual recognition and regulatory cooperation are significantly less sophisticated than those experienced between the UK and the EU.
MEPs will also vote on the revision of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) which has been led through the Parliament by Scottish Conservative MEP, Ian Duncan. This revision aims at meeting our climate change obligations set by the Paris agreement by giving industry the incentive to modernise and innovate.
Vicky will meet with ministers from like-minded countries working in close cooperation with the UK in the Council.
She will also meet representatives from Digital Europe, the American Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Danish and Austrian ambassadors.
On Wednesday, Vicky will meet representatives of Firearms United.
My Political Priorities
Economic Stability must come first. Without a strong economy we can not deliver a strong society. I work with businesses and consumers to keep Britain open for business, cutting red tape, boosting trade opportunities and helping to deliver jobs and growth for all.
I support Science and Research which is key to delivering better medical care, healthy food as well as the Innovation and Creative Industries which bring improved lifestyles for all our families.
Strong home Security is vital in today's uncertain world, which requires robust policing and defence and deep international relationships that we can depend on. I work with others to achieve this.
I care about the Countryside and the Environment and making sure that rural and urban communities flourish.
